So a lot has happened over the past few weeks and there's stuff to look out for certainly so lets kick off.

Platoons
The latest development in bf 4 is platoons. Where as in BF3 they just were a gathering of friends and nothing else they improved on it now. For those who care about Skill / kdr and Rankings there are more statistics to worry about. It also records how much time we spent on the game while playing with at least 4 platoon mates.

So what are you waiting for, Apply here or bug Weston about an invite.

Also, Weston isn't good at designing a platoon emblem (i'm neither) so whoever has the skills to make a nice one should say and do so if they want to of course

Last days of the free shortcuts
Part of the February player appreciation month DICE is giving away free shortcut kits, these kits unlock the guns (you still need to earn the attachments though) so you don't have to play with the other guns that came before it. The shortcut kits available are the Grenade shortcut kit and the Shotgun shortcut kit for premium members.

The grenade kit is availble for free on the origin store, just select it and check out.
For the Premium shortcut kit you need to go to the battlelog page and click the bottom orange link while logged in.

If you don't have these guns/grenades already it's a nice and easy way to get it. It lasts till march 4th so be quick about it.
Second Assault
Its out for premium members, since most members have premium they were playing it already. For all the other players it is going to be till this tuesday ( March 3rd) before they can play.
Available maps to play are

• Metro 2014

Still Metro, Lots of grenades and explosions going about with some nice interplay with lifts added to the B flag and a new passage added as well. Very nice to get your Master dogtag(500 kills) for the M320 LVG or any other grenade.​

• Caspian Border 2014

Beautiful map that is now placed in the autumn. Means lots of oranges and reds about. Big feature is of course the big wall that separates the US spawn and A flag. It can be destroyed with C4 so you can still go around it. D flag on top of the hill is also completely changed. A big radio tower that can be blown up by setting of the timer below. Notable is the sewer entrance to the underground parts at D flag.​

• Gulf of Oman 2014

Big feature here is the sandstorm that comes in after a few moments, makes you love the infrared sights on guns and vehicles because if you don't have those visibility is significantly reduced. Notable is the BF2 Special forces theme playing in the lifts at G flag.​

• Operation Firestorm 2014

This map is all about fire now, lots of valves that can be shot off. Tankers that can be blow up. Big tower in the middle that can be triggered to release a big flame at the top levels and killing that pesky sniper that's camping there to get his achievements.

Second assault also introduces new achievements and weapons. To get these our friend EvilBrownie posted a list on what to do and where to get em.

Naval Strike
For premium members there is another expansion scheduled to come out later this month called Naval Strike
Exact date for release of Naval Strike is 30th of march.

Looks to start out as conquest and then turn into rush(lets hope the mcoms or whatever are not on the top of the carrier,or else it will be rubbish)

Have you ever played Titan mode on BF2142? It looks exactly the same, and that was such a blast!
Also the fact that you had to parachute to safety from the exploding Mothership.

I hope the animation will be a bit like Coral Sea from 1942. Where the carrier tilts to one side and then starts sinking.
Everybody always walked to the one side like it was Titanic, trying to stay afloat for as long as possible.

TBH I hadn't got a clue what was going on in that video lol. Need a German to English translation.

However I used to play a lot of BF2142 so if its at all like Titan mode in that then it'll come back to me.

It's basicly cap the rocket bases to get the enemy carrier to 50% health. Then go into carrier to blow up point a and B consecutively and game won.
Gives a nice mix of fighting outside and switching into frantic indoor fights.

Hopefully they thought about the design of those carriers really well because bad design breaks the game mode.

Heres a better video of the Naval Strike DLC done by Jack Frags. He gives an overview of what to do, shows all the new weapons etc, then shows one of the maps and the names of the others, plus how to relaunch your rubber boat (if you can stay alive long enough!)
