A quick update on BF4, thanks to Binary for putting this together.

Naval Strike Released

So on March 25th we saw the long awaited Premium pre-release of the third DLC pack; “Naval Strike” which centres on water based combat. This just leaves “Dragon’s Teeth” (urban warfare) and “Final Stand” (BF4’s epic conclusion) DLC packs remaining which are both scheduled to be dropped in our bullet riddled laps sometime in the summer of 2014.

Naval Strike came with four naval maps, all set in the South China Sea; Lost Islands, Nansha Strike, Wave Breaker, and Operation Mortar, all of which are currently running on our server along with a selection of previously released maps. The maps also include a new game type called Carrier Assault and introduce the ACV 2-man Hovercraft.

Megalodon Found! (AKA “I think we’re gonna need a bigger boat”)

Some people have been searching for this for months, an apparent hidden Easter egg which was originally thought to be in Paracel Storm, however on the 4th April Jack Frags posted a YouTube video showing he finally found it in Nansha Strike.

Apparently you need to get 10 players to bob around a certain buoy to trigger an event where the huge ‘shark’ leaps out of the water and kills everyone around as it lands. Apparently no Chief “I can’t swim” Brody, wisecracking Oceanographer or tyrannical Cap’n “Farewell & Adieu” Quint are required, though perhaps a few hundred barrels and a harpoon or two would be advisable.

A number of people seem to be asking whether the Megalodon was put in the map only as a response to the community believing there really was something to find. Also, the general consensus is that the Megalodon is a tad on the large size to be a true depiction.

The other curious thing is that a designer stated he could trigger the Easter egg on his own, which raises the question of whether this is the actual Easter egg being talked about or whether there is another one to find somewhere!

Phantom Trainee Unlock Discovered

You may have noticed that at the bottom of your Assignments page there is the Phantom Trainee assignment, the requirements for which are hidden…or at least they were. Now you can unlock this to begin gathering the requirements.
Note that in order to do this you need to have Phantom Prospect unlocked first.

Once Phantom Trainee is unlocked you will see the following:

· Score 200 kills with pistols
· Score 20 kills in a jet
· Get 2x Shotgun Ribbons in a round
· Unlocks Phantom weapon and vehicle camo

Once again Jack Frags has a video showing how to unlock this assignment

DICE confirms “rubber banding” issues

Although it’s not like we needed to get confirmation of something we knew already, it is nice to know they acknowledge its presence & are trying to do something about it. Last week’s patch was apparently supposed to fix some of the lag and rubber banding, however reports are that rather than make it better, a lot more players are now experiencing it than were before the patch, though it at least seems to be affecting console players more than PC players.

Following the avalanche of complaints, DICE then released a quick statement saying

“…We’re unhappy with our server performance, so we’ll be upgrading the hardware as soon as possible, investing more to deliver a better experience…”

Nice one DICE, it’s only taken you nearly 6 months and nearly a whole player base complaining for you to arrive at this decision. Their post continued with them saying that they are treating it as their top priority but with no ETA on the cure other than “soon”. Let’s hope that this will also go some way to curing the net code issues too.
