"...In the same interview, Justin Wiebe also confirmed that the Rental Server Program will not be back in Battlefield 2042, which is something that will make it difficult to build communities, as custom servers are not always online, unlike rented servers."

This might not be a big problem after all. If some TOGAs are online ready to play, we'll get the custom server up. Even if we could rent a server, it would need TOGAs to get it up and running anyway, without active members it would be empty. So at the end of the day we only save the server rent and play, when TOGAs want to, right? :hatsoff: From the recruitment point of view of course we'd like to keep it up & running as much as possible.

I was thinking the same thing as McT we could maybe keep a custom server and start it with 1 player start
We will need to see the actual situation and work out how we make it work.

Not sure if i have understand this right, but now with the upcoming Portal you have to start your server every time when you want to play on your custom server? If so, basically you have to wait other players to find it and join to get decent game. If server could be rented, it would run on its own after the set up and other players could play on it 24/7 (back at the old days good community servers were full night and day even there wasn't any of the owning clan's players).

That is correct.

As Soos as last human player leaves the server it goes offline.

To get it started again, you join and optionally can add ai bots to get it going etc.

As there will be no rental servers, this is the next-best thingy. But it does need active members to get the server running, and AI bots probably make it easier to kill time (and bots) while waiting for other players. A lot depends also on the map & game type choices etc.

Then it's kind of a virtual server?

So say a TOGA member creates a set of conditions for a map through Portal, presumably the creator can save those as a game type or series of maps so he can start a server and we can all join, once that person has to leave the game (nappy needs changing / wife needs humping / etc), the server shuts down even if other 'live' players are still playing? If so that's a potential annoyance.

Is it possible that if a TOGA member creates the server conditions he can save that as a template and save save it somewhere other TOGA members can access so we could restart the virtual server or whoever comes online first starts it under the TOGA name?
