Hi guys,

Something happened on TS last night that could have led to some people feeling embarrassed or ill-at-ease. Fortunately, it didn't and I want to prevent this from happening in the future. I use open mic on TS (mainly because I wouldn't remember to key-in when I spoke if I used push-to-talk ) but I try to set up the sensitivity higher so as my mic doesn't pick up all the noises but me talking.

From time to time though, you might hear sounds coming from my mic that are weird and you might wonder what is going on. I have a daughter that is disabled and, even with my precautions, you might hear her chiming in on TS. I want to avoid, as much as possible, people making innocent comments about those noises and feeling bad when I explain what they are. It happened to me a few months ago on Beach's TS when a friend, who didn't know about my daughter, made a comment after hearing her and felt so bad when I explained... I don't want that to happen on TOGA's TS or have anyone feeling bad about anything...

Catch you soon in game and TS I hope ;)

No worries Wally

However we do encourage push to talk on so to avoid just such instances and other background noises getting heard.

Give PTT a go and see if you can get used to it, I use the middle mouse button and it has become such a habit I have been known to press it even when on the phone so my side was heard all over ts so no way is perfect

its cool wally, its never made me feel uncomfortable ever hun.

I already knew after last time you had to say, and with lots of new players on recently it must feel you continually have to say something, I hope not because you don't have to.

I think its cool your chillout time and rest time is battlefield. I get where your coming from, a previous life was in specialist healthcare (orthopaedics, before I left after 13yr and went IT) and I know how much hard work it is just day to day, kudos to you!

I like to think to myself its your daughter enjoying watching the performance of her kick ass mommy wiping squads out in 3/bf4. on the rare occasions its leaked through :)

lol Thank you Mando... It is hard work and I really need my time to chill... I'm glad it's with you guys. And I know I don't have to explain anything but, like I said, I don't want anyone to say something that they will feel uncomfortable about when they hear her. Better to tell up front and avoid any embarrassing situations... And I don't mind explaining... Who knows if or when someone might find my experience with living with the situation useful...

What you could do is look into those throat microphones. I see them around for about 30 euros so not to expensive.
(yes I like to solve my problems by throwing money at them ;) )

Don't know how good their quality is but it would kill out all the noise from other people in the room without having to disable voice activation.

Something like this http://www.ixcessory.com/Merchant/m...&Product_Code=XTM82G-USB&Category_Code=XTM82G

Here's an explanation on how they work http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Throat_microphone

My understanding of throat mics is they have to be very tight round the neck, one chap explained it to me as almost strangling him and he was having to virtually shout anyway for the mic to pick up...however that is second hand info, I just mentioned it to a guy because I was thinking of using a throat mic for airsoft.

Maybe if you could try one before you bought it as a potential solution?

Chill Wally xx, don't tell anyone but I use voice activation since TS came out and I am to old a grizzle to change now .

You'd better watch out with that voice activation even after all these years! On one evening only ever I had voice activation accidentally on - and that's how I came to choose my avatar .

I used to find when people have to push to talk on a TS channel the chat is sterile and you don't get the true person.

Bring me the farts and laughs and people opening a can of beer and even " I don't want no fooking rice " :) ..Loves you x

Or you get people like me who even though I use push to talk will key up for the slightest reason...even when I'm having a conversation with the dog (Obie not Wally by the way) :)

I use PTT now after one incident that got me into serious trouble. I had dome something wrong, and wifey was displeased. She came into the room to have a go at me and everyone on TS started rolling around with laughter. Unfortunately, I then couldn't contain myself and burst out laughing too. I still get reminded about the incident now, and it was 5-6 years ago.
